Week 14

"Tonight, old man, you did it!You did it! You did it!  You said that you would do it and indeed you did!"  That's my victory chant from My Fair Lady.  I made it to the end of my first semester back in college after 20 years and although it was painful and time consuming, I did it! 

Bizjournal.com says "The word “entrepreneur” originally comes from the combination of two Latin words “entre”, to swim out, and “prendes”, to grasp, understand, or capture."  I've had to grab, understand and capture a lot of information in this class in order to learn more about entrepreneurship and what it takes to be an entrepreneur.  I've learned that we need to create a life that's worth living.  Find something that you are passionate about and follow it.  If you love your work, then it's not work.  Be honest in your business and Heavenly Father will always bless your efforts.  Work on bettering your skills, because we can always gain more knowledge.  Albert Einstein says, "Once you stop learning, you start dying."  Live your life to the max and don't waste your time here.  Life will be hard sometimes, but just keep going.  Don't quit.  Have the faith to know that it'll all work out in time.  Dream the big dream, because it just might happen. Don't be a dream killer, because you don't know what will be successful and what will work out.  Be grateful for the opportunities and chances you get.  Eleanor Roosevelt said, "Every day is a gift, that's why it's called the present."  So, take the chance!  Reach out and connect with someone.  Put those ideas to paper.  Open your eyes to see the possibilities.  How can you make the world better because you lived in it?

Week 13

 Business Update - I'm actually getting really nervous about the business offer that my co-worker made.  There has been a little drama between her and the boss, but I'm more nervous about how I'm going to come up with the cash to buy him out.  I have little experience in business, so I am hesitant to see any bank loaning me money.  I really don't want to borrow from family and taking a second mortgage on the house would turn my hair gray very quickly.  At the end of the day, I'm still excited about the opportunity. Week 12

Update on the entrepreneur opportunity - my co-worker approached my boss today and said, "If you ever want to sell this business, Annie and I are interested."  Now, I'm sure my husband would have liked to be consulted on this, but this would actually be a fantastic opportunity in the long term.  He didn't immediately decline us, so we'll leave the offer on the table.  Since Bryan, my boss has been told that he has two to five years left to live, this could work out as a win-win for all of us.     This week's reading on "What's a Business For?" reports that most people believe that executives are making decisions based on personal rewards and not for the company's betterment or its employees.  Since it's usually the manpower that runs a company, executives would be wise to invest in the company's greatest asset - its employees.  Virtue and integrity are an integral part of being successful in business, examples include the many busines...
